Topbox is a monthly beauty subscription service which sends you 4 hair, make-up or skincare samples tailored to your beauty profile. The subscription fee is $12 plus tax, shipping included. My July box came in a reusable tote bag as I opted for the “enviro-option” instead of the usual cardboard tube.
The first item in my bag was a 0.36 g sample of Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner in Beyond Brown. “This matte gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex Tip hugs your lash-line from corner to corner”. I’m not an eye-liner user myself, so this item wasn’t met with too much excitement. I have heard lots of great things about the benefit cosmetics line however, so I can appreciate that this is probably a great product for anyone who does use eye-liner. I tried it out and I just wasn’t able to get the hang of it, so unfortunately this product probably won’t be used. The mascara of this line I have heard is amazing so I am hoping that I might receive that sample sometime soon! A full sized eye-liner is $27, making my sample worth $6.94.
The second item in my bag was a 30 ml sample bottle of Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil. “Rapidly absorbed into hair fibre, it rebalances the moisture level of dry hair”. I have used a hair oil before and I liked the results, so I am looking forward to trying this one out. This one has a very nice scent, it might be floral, but I am not the greatest at identifying them. The product description says that the oil provides UV protection, which is great for the hot summer months in the sun. It’s a rather expensive product, which gives me hopes that it will be high quality, especially when paired with the amazing reviews it has received on-line. A full sized bottle of this hair oil is $69, making my sample worth $13.80.
The third item in my bag was a full sized pallet of So Susan Rose Quartet Lip & Cheek Cream. “A richly-pigmented, hydrating lip & cheek pomade that delivers 12 hours of continuous wear without dryness, creasing or smudging”. This was another rather disappointing addition to my bag. I don’t use lip or cheek cream and don’t see the point of it. I was actually very surprised when I opened it up, it looked exactly like the play make-up I had when I was a little girl. I will have to try and find someone to gift this one to as I don’t think I care to even try this product out. This product is fragrance-free, hypo-allergenic and is animal cruelty free, however I can’t speak to the quality as I have nothing to compare it to. This lip & check cream is worth $12.
My fourth and final item in my bag was a full sized OFRA Cosmetics OFRA Universal Eyebrow Pencil. “Can be applied directly to the eyebrow area then smudge gently with a small brush or brow wand applicator”. Sadly again this is another product I won’t use. Eyebrow pencils are a strange and foreign object to me. Luckily on the reverse of the product card is a handy guide with tips and tricks on using an eyebrow pencil. I also received a coupon code to receive 30% off the entire OFRA site. This full sized product is worth $13.
My July Topbox was a bit of a disappointment. 3 out of the 4 products I won’t be using, however the hair oil I am looking forward to trying. It was nice to receive 2 full sized products, a pleasant surprise. All together, the box was worth $45.74 (the hair oil having the highest value) and after paying $13.56, it had a final value of $32.18. Not a bad value at all!
